Today I’m going to talk about the most important aspect of marketing that is so often overlooked, Word-of-Mouth. Its so often overlooked because its hard to measure and not as easy to buy. Even though its difficult to control Word-of-mouth should be were most advertising money and planning should go. Why? you ask, because are you more likely to buy a t-shirt from a shop you never heard of or one from the shop your friend just got finished telling you they got an awesome shirt from.
I’ve always known about the power of W.O.M but it wasnt until I bough a new motorcycle(2007 Ninja 250) that I truly realized its influence. Within one week of driving, I have been asked somany times about my bike from complete strangers. Its not normal things you say like “awesome bike”, no, people have been asking questions you’d expect them to ask a saleman like “how much does it cost?”, “does it accelerate well?”, “how does it handle?” and even “how many mpg’s does it get?”.
I dont know how they did it maybe they just made an awesome product but not only did kawasaki get how ever much profit from selling me the bike but they also got a walking salesman for however long I own the bike. So before you start your next ad campaign think what can I do to make a person who sees your ad or product tell his friend about it?
I’ll have some more specific examples of successful word of mouth campaigns and how you can run a successful campaign as well. Also if you have any related ideas you’d like to share feel free to leave a comment.
