Waiting on Adsense Referall 2.1

If you’ve clicked on the referall button in your adsense account lately you’ll notice its changed quite a bit.  No longer are the products you can refer related to google.  Now anyone with a product to sell can pay to have their product advertised by Adsense Publishers.  While I was initially excited when I heard about the changes on DP,  Ive been running these ads on this(see ad at bottom) and a few of my other sites since I got the option last friday and my excitement has now turned into utter dissapointment.

This disapointment isnt just from the fact that Google Referalls can’t compete with affiliate networks lika Azoogle or Commision Junction that it was created to compete with.  But they dont even earn enough to justify switching from normal pay-per-click adsense.  If this wasn’t Google no one would even think about using this program.  Since it is Google and they’ve been good at making products better with time,  Ill make a few suggestions for what should go in 2.1.

  • Color Schemes- It needs a better way to change the color scheme
  • Banners-textual ads arent always the best display option, 2.1 needs way more images than what is currently available
  • Less “spam”-Every site Ive seen advertised on my site has been pretty spammy or very low quality not trustworthy enough to convert after I get the visitor there
  • More big companies-I’d like to see companies with established brands start advertising like Blockbuster or Gamefly.

I can see Google Referall working very well and being way easier to use than current affiliates like azoogle or cj but right now its just not stable enough to change from ones current affiliate network or even from regular ppc Adsense.  Though I have hope especially since I love any network that uses 30 day cookies for conversions so I’m crossing my fingers that Google Referall 2.1 will be better.

Id love to hear your experience with Google Referall, especially if its worked well for you, so please leave a comment.
