There are alot of ways to advertise your proxy and since the question asked how Im just going to list them and answer which is the best in a later question.

• their are lists like the ones proxy.org provides
• Optimising the proxy to display well in search engines
• Proxy Directories like sweetproxies or proxiestoday
• Or you can advertise with sites like stumbleupon.
• also myspace and google groups bulletins work well

i’ll like to see a real (when i say real i mean facts) post about free traffic sources.

Now Im wary about posting numbers cause webmasters can easily got lost in them but Ill do it if yall promise to focus on what the numbers mean and not the numbers themeselves.

All my proxies were only advertised with free sources, this data is from 06/04-07/04. The stats are very low since they were taken during the middle of summer, if you want to know whatnon-summer traffic is like times by ten.

Gomimmy.com-I only linked this to my other proxies and thus of the non-direct traffic which was only 13%, half was from google(organic) and half from unfilter.us(referall)

Hiddenpenguin.info-As this was my first I added it to every topsite,directory,did myspace bulletins, stumble trades, link exchanges, everything.

Unfilter.us-For this one I focused more on getting into search engines then getting links and it definently paid off.

As you can see from the bounce rates, organic is the most valuable kind of traffic to get.

Im going to assume the best advertising for you would be the one that brings in the most money without driving away users. I wrote a pretty detailed post on monetizing a proxy and after writing it I came to the consensus that advertising with cpm and pop up networks like adversal and adbrite work the best. To finish the answer to your question, selling directly to an advertiser is the best form of advertising because its safe and if youre a good enough salesman very profitable but this is hard because the proxy niche is pretty full.

First Ill say the obvious the best grouping of adblocks is the one that gets the most clickthroughs without putting a dent in your traffic and is different for every site. That said placing two 250×250 adsense adblocks right above the url bar and then placing anon-adsense that has some sort of graphic in it on the side has worked the best for me.

As for what theme layout performs the best in terms of creating revenue, no one theme is the best for creating revenue as there are too many variables unrelated to the theme that go into increasing revenue, so you just have to try out themes, color schemes ad placement until you find the best one

What are your opinions on using Adult ads on your proxy?

They can be very profitable, affiliates like AdultFriendFinder pay way better than regular ad networks. That said I will never use them not just cause of moral qualms but also because your target audience is teenagers and teens aren’t going to sign up for a site like adultfriendfinder plus affiliates dont work properly on proxies.
